Instruments of Self-Inquiry

16-Type Personality Test

A four-letter type is shorthand for four separate preferences, and the accuracy of the shorthand depends on how carefully each one is measured. This assessment uses ninety-six original questions in the Jungian tradition, twenty-four per dimension with three tiers of weighting, so that a strong preference and a marginal one stop looking identical. Scoring happens entirely in your browser, and nothing you answer is transmitted anywhere.

Reading your result

Treat the percentages as the real result and the four letters as their summary. A dimension scored at ninety percent is a settled fact about you; one scored at fifty-five is a border you live on, and people on borders are better described by two profiles than by one. The full written profile linked from your result examines what the configuration actually does, which is more useful than what it is called.

Frequently asked questions

How is this test constructed?

Ninety-six weighted forced-choice items across the four classical dimensions of Jungian typology — energy, perception, judgment, and orientation. Items are original to CINEMAWORDS, weighted by diagnostic strength, and scored dimension by dimension rather than by simple majority.

Are my answers stored on your servers?

No. Every calculation runs in your browser. Your birth data is never transmitted to, or stored on, our servers — closing the tab erases it. The shareable result link encodes your inputs in the URL fragment, which browsers do not send to servers either.

How long does it take?

Twelve to fifteen minutes at a considered pace. The instrument measures consistency across differently-angled questions, so unhurried answers produce a sharper profile.

Is a four-letter type scientifically valid?

Typology is a lens, not a measurement instrument — its scientific standing is contested, and we say so. For trait-level measurement with the strongest empirical footing, we also publish a full Big Five assessment; the two read well together.

Can my type change over time?

Preferences are stable in tendency but not carved in stone; life, role, and deliberate practice shift how they express. Retaking the test across years is less about a "true" answer than about watching your own weighting move.
